Type
In the Limousin breed there are three different types:
An early maturing heavy muscled type, especially for vealer production. It grows fast up to 450kg at 10 to 12 months and then tapers off. Fully grown and fully feed maximum weight will be around 1000kg for bulls and 650kg for females. A to A+ muscle score.
In the middle we have the “mix” type which have a wider
range. Generally it is an early mature type, which grows on. Fully grown and fully feed maximum weight will be around 1200kg for bulls and 800kg for females. A to A+ muscle score.
At the other end of the scale we have the “Elevage” type,
taller and later maturing, this type are not very suitable in direct beef production, but used to put size on females. Mature weight could easily be 1200kg + for bulls and 800kg + for cows. A to B muscle score.
